Hazel & Doc’s 9.15.21 Litter

Adoption Day!

Four wonderful families are now snuggling with Ever After’s sweet boys. Our efforts in loving and training these puppies never grow old when we receive comments like: “Thanks again for the treasure you’ve helped us gain.” “We love him so much already.” “We have the best puppy in the world!!!” “Thanks for giving our puppy such a wonderful start on his puppyhood! He’s making great progress on both potty and crate training. It wouldn’t have been possible without the care you gave him at Ever After!” Safe to say, these puppies are adored and in loving hands. Gordon made the stud list as Ever After’s Little Go-Getter Gordon, aka Gordy. He is presently being tested and trained before placement with his own forever guardian family. Thank you to Pat Hastings for putting her stamp of approval on the conformation of Ever After’s five boys.

Thank you also to the family and friends who helped socialize our puppies. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it, right?

Hazel & Doc’s 9.15.21 Litter - 7 Weeks

For this busy pack of boys, action shots seemed most fitting for the weekly update. The pups are quietly sleeping and heartily eating hard kibbles in their own crates now. With the last potty outing at 10:30-11:00 P.M., the babies enjoy sleeping until 6:00-6:30 A.M. in closed crates each day. Momma Hazel still plays with her pumpkins but has little milk to provide. Outdoor potty quickly seems to be preferred over the pups’ litter trays. The fall leaves have added a fun element to big-yard playtimes. There’s one week to go before adoption day!

Happy Halloween from the gents! Check out the Resources page on toxic foods for dogs - Halloween chocolate is included. Field trip week was filled with adventures to different outside and inside locations. During fall cleanup, the lawn mowing, raking, and use of the shop vacuum were no big deal for your brave little boys. Ever After combined lots of praise and play with those strange sounds to turn them into simple distractions. Remember, all new experiences should be introduced with patience and positivity. Crate-training and outdoor-potty began this week. The pups also enjoyed dewormer medicine for a birthday treat. As always, Ever After is taking great care of your little pumpkins.

Hazel and Doc’s 9.15.21 Litter - Week 5

Our gentlemen dressed in ties for their birthday picture this week. Aren’t they handsome! The three bigger boys have a great start on teeth; while Gordon’s and Flynn’s are still trying to break the surface. Beds are fairly dry now as the litter tray areas are being utilized quite nicely. Great job fellas! Wrestling and gnawing on each other fill their wake times - as we would all expect from a group of guys. Although the boys prefer listening to Big Band music, Ever After is stepping up external sounds for desensitization to a noisy world. In no time, the pups will be ready to take on your busy households.

Porridge week is the best for photos. These pups may be half the size that Mila’s were, but they eat porridge like they’re twice the size. The whelping box now has a potty area, sleeping area, lots of toys, and outer visiting area for cuddling. The boys are naturals at keeping the areas as titled - for the most part;) Their wobbles have turned into hops and miniature trots, and their adorable “tough boy” voices are more like sopranos than baritones. Snuggles with these precious dudes is easily the best part of the day for those of us at Ever After.

Autumn is here - Ever After’s favorite season! Our sleepy boys barely stayed awake long enough for picture time (especially Thomas and Flynn). We must tell you, the feel of their silky fur against our necks as we cuddle them is ever so scrumptious. These gents are seeing, hearing, and trying out their legs now. In no time they will be dancing to the Disney music that fills their nursery. Beds to climb on and potty areas were added to the whelping box. Hazel is still devoted to staying with them most of the time. These pups are truly blessed to have such an attentive and gentle mother.

The easiest photos to capture at this age are yawning and sleeping shots. However, we lucked out by getting eye-opening shots as well. The eyes will take several more weeks to develop. Hearing will be next. As you can see from the group shot, this litter has quite the variation in sizes at this point. This week, Ever After used Puppy Culture early stimulation techniques with the boys. Hazel stayed right by our sides while her babies were held. She is such a proud momma.

Hazel & Doc’s 9.15.21 Litter - 1 Week

The first week is mostly “mommy and me” time. Hazel instinctually knows to keep her babies close for warmth, milk, and stimulation since they can neither see, hear, regulate their own body temperatures, nor potty on their own. The little boys scoot around on their tummies using their senses of touch and smell to locate Mom’s milk bar. Although the birth weights may give the impression of “lightweights,” these engineers are chugging along like the best of them. (Get the theme for the names?) For their birthday gift, Ever After gave the puppies manicures and pedicures with a human fingernail clipper. Check out how to clip dog nails on our RESOURCES page. Human clippers don’t always do the trick. Finally, aren’t they amazing!

Hazel treated Ever After to a quick two-hour daytime delivery on 9.15.21. Six healthy boys of apricot/caramel parti and tri-color were born without any hiccups. For anyone who knows Hazel, it was no surprise that she was immediately enamored with each of her sons. What a lovely family!
