Mila & Giorgio’s 8.21.21 Litter

ADOPTION DAY!

The puppies turned 8 weeks on adoption day. It was the earliest Ever After has ever sent home puppies. Yet, they did great acclimating to their new homes. Our favorite comments: (1) - “We follow the schedule and he does everything the way you said. He even puts his little paw up to the glass when he needs to go out.” (2) - “He is doing great! He sleeps 10:30 PM - 6:00 AM with no crying at all!” (3) - “She sends her love and says thank you for all you did for her. She continues to sleep in her crate throughout the night without a peep - the same for her daytime naps.” (4) - “We couldn’t be happier. He is unreal!! He slept great last night and LOVES our yard. He is the smartest dog we’ve ever had. He already knows come, down, sit, and has had no accidents in the house!” (5) - “She behaved just like you said she would when I followed the routine. She slept all night in her kennel just like you trained her to do. After waking, I took her out, she pottied, I fed her, then I took her out to poo - and she did!! You did an amazing job! Thank you!!!” Honestly, the thanks goes to these families. All took training their puppies as a priority from the onset and were prepared for their new family member. Thank you so much for loving Ever After’s puppies and giving them the best homes. Thank you also for the many pictures and updates. Because of you, our hearts are full here at Ever After.

Mila & Giorgio’s 8.21.21 Litter - 7 Weeks

What a busy week for your little pumpkins! Soft food was mixed with hard kibbles. Puppies responded to “come,” “go potty,” “good puppy,” “no bite,” and “sit” (kind of - ha!). Honestly, they are such smart pups and want so badly to please that you will find training them a complete joy. Although Mila has little milk left, she still lets her kiddos nurse on occasion (as long as they behave themselves with those pointy teeth). The best part - the gang sleeps all naptimes (including nighttime from 11:00 P.M. to 6:30 A.M.) in two large crates with no potty accidents!! When the crates are opened, we brightly say “Come!” and run with the puppies out the door to their artificial turf area where we then say “Go potty!” With each squat, we say “Good potty!” and give a soft pet on the head for the successful little dude. Going into the last week, Ever After teaches each puppy to enjoy individual crates in preparation for their new homes. They will also be given their first official full bath with the upkeep of nail, puppy pad, bum, and eye trims. Our precious pups will be all gussied up for their forever families - so exciting!

Visitors’ Week

At 6 weeks, families have the option to visit their litter. Our amazing family from Texas took us up on the offer. The fall picture stickers were inspired by Chloe (middle) - thank you! The puppies showed off their routine - wake, pee, eat, pee/poo/play, and sleep - repeat. Potty and crate training are going well. They are a smart bunch!

Mila & Giorgio’s 8.21.21 Litter - 5 Weeks

Teeth are coming in and Mila has started the weaning process, ha! Our (thicker) porridge eaters are better about drinking water but only if Mom is not available with something better. The puppies are loving their outdoor playpen that is covered for protection against birds of prey. Young Aunt Gretel (9 months) likes to play with them inside the pen. She thinks they have cool toys. Aunt Hazel occasionally checks in as well but makes her visits short in order to get back to her own little boys. Spending time with “safe” dogs other than Mom and littermates is great for socializing your babies. They are growing fast. Big Mike was the first to hit 4 pounds this week.

Mila & Giorgio’s 8.21.21 Litter - Week 4

Porridge (warmed up, softened and pureed puppy kibbles) week! With puppies growing rapidly, Mila needed some help keeping up with their appetites. It’s always a fun time to take photos - and even more fun to clean up, ha! A water bowl was introduced, but your babies see it primarily as a swimming pool at this point. The puppies also moved to a new location with a bigger pen area. We worked on mastering separation of beds and potty areas. They did great! We’re ready to begin kennel and outdoor potty training. With personalities starting to show themselves, Ever After can honestly say that you are lucky families to have any one of these precious cuddlers.

Mila & Giorgio’s 8.21.21 Litter - Week 3

With school in session, Ever After decided to pose your puppies with primary colors that complimented their ribbons. All eyes are open now, but the puppies still prefer to keep them closed in perfect slumber. Thus, photo sessions are done quickly to adhere to the next nap time. Since ears opened as well, Ever After added to neurological stimulation techniques already being used with Disney music, “noisy” toys, doors closing, vacuuming, etc., in the area of the nursery. The idea is to positively expose the puppies to external noises for desensitization of the ever-noisy world out there. Puppies are also finding better footing under their wobbles making it easier to get to Momma’s milk bar. Lastly, the tops of litter trays were added to their whelping box for beginning potty training. There’s never a dull moment with puppies in the house – so fun!

Mila & Giorgio’s 8.21.21 Litter - Week 2

Except for one little dude who required Mommy’s presence during photo time, the rest seemed at ease with the world of modeling. Let’s hope that continues for future picture updates. This week, Mommy’s milk was still the best thing on the planet. Morgan was the first to take an official peak at the world. However, even with eyes opening, it will take several more weeks for eyesight to fully develop in each puppy. Big Mike was the first to try out his wobbly legs; but belly-style still seems to be the preference. Each weekly birthday, Ever After clips the white tips of the puppies’ nails with a human fingernail clipper. Check out the video How to Trim Dog Nails on the RESOURCES page for tips on avoiding the quicks (the innervated, vascularized core of the nail bed = blood vessel and nerve inside the nail – ouch!)

Mila & Giorgio’s 8.21.21 Litter - Week 1

Aren’t they precious! The first week is always a time where mommy and puppies bond. Mila leaves them only for her own potty breaks. Even those are hurried so that she can get right back to her tiny babies. Mila instinctively knows to keep them close for milk and warmth. It is truly miraculous watching the puppies use their noses to find mom since they are not able to see, hear, walk, or even deficate on their own yet. Everyday brings changes with more fur, more color on their noses, and more vocal sounds. On the four light color pups, black noses mean they are considered apricot partis, and liver-colored noses mean they are caramel partis - time will tell. As for the temporary names, we grabbed them from a show our older kids enjoy, Chuck. Naming the puppies is part of personalizing our time with your sweethearts; but we expect you will change the names to suit your families. Also listed are the puppies’ birth weights.

From 8:26 P.M. to 11:58 P.M. on 8.21.21, Mila brought 7 beautiful puppies into the world - 5 boys and 2 girls. Mila and Giorgio’s rainbow parti (white and another color) litter showed markings of caramel or apricot (nose colors will determine which one) as well as chocolate. These precious puppies will most likely be miniatures around 16”-17” to the withers (shoulders) and around 20-30 pounds. The litter will be evaluated by Pat Hastings on 10.14.21 and adoption days will be scheduled for the weekend of 10.16-17.21; so mark your calendars! Mila does pregnancy well and motherhood even better. All she wants is to be near her babies, scooting them close to her for warmth, keeping them clean, and feeding their plump little bellies with mother’s milk. Since temperament is inherited from the parents, you are in perfect hands letting Mila raise your sweet pups. Congratulations families!
