Adoption Days!

All nine puppies found amazing families! Wilbur was the last to leave our home only one day shy of his 16-week birthday. His family drove all the way from Reno, Nevada since he was too big to fly under the airplane seat:) It was hard saying good-bye to older puppies who had really become part of the family at Ever After. However, the ease at which they seemed to have entered their new homes made the extended weeks of care and training completely worth it. The families have kindly showered Ever After with picture and video updates. Thank you so much for loving our sweet fur babies. Lastly, keep a look out for Bitsy. Her name is now Ever After’s Miss Penelope Lumley, aka Penny - named by her new guardian family of seven!

AVAILABLE puppies from our Charlotte’s Web litter are hoping to find their Ever After with the perfect families. They are all so loving, well-socialized, and trained. Check out their training video on our Instagram. The longer we have these sweethearts, the harder it is to give them up. Hurry!

Mila & Rex’s 11.29.22 Litter - 8 Weeks

The eighth week was a blur of activity (as it always is). Kennel training for puppies to sleep through the night was mastered, outdoor potty through a doggy door was in full swing (no pun intended, ha!), and puppies were evaluated for structure and temperament (a great litter on both accounts). In addition, the first vet appointment administering health check, shots, dewormer, and microchips (with prepaid registrations) was achieved. However, the best part was putting our well-socialized and trained puppies in the arms of loving families on Adoption Day. Fern(now Ruby), Gussie(now Auggie), Templeton, and Bitsy were blessed with their Ever Afters. Wilbur, Charlotte, Henry, Homer, and Edith remain AVAILABLE. Ever After will continue to love-on and train the remaining five until their perfect families are found.

Mila & Rex’s 11.29.22 Litter - 7 Weeks

Mila’s gang enjoyed “big yard” play this week. Finding leaves to chew up proved to be their favorite thing to do. Unlike the humans at Ever After, the puppies floated over the fragile snowbanks making it hard to round them up for picture time. Although Mila still lets her babies nurse 3x a day, she tells them “enough is enough” on a daily basis too. It won’t be long now when their diet will only be puppy food, water, and leaves.

The puppies scored during visitation week with one of the nicest families on the planet visiting them. There were tails wagging, kisses liberally administered, and the biggest smiles across all faces. Kennel training progressed to closed crates first with 1-2 puppies per crate; then each trying it on their own - some more willing than others. It’s a work in progress. Group baths of 4 and 5 seemed to be enjoyable for this group of siblings. It definitely helped having each other when that scary hair dryer came out.

Ever After worked on “no bite” this week as we steered these active nibblers toward using chew toys over human clothes and skin. This breed is amazingly smart and desperately wants to please; so lessons are coming along quite well. Outdoor time is fun but still a bit chilly for their little bodies. It is interesting how outdoor-potty time seems so much more natural to them than going inside. We just have to be ready to whisk the puppies outside once the potty-dance starts.

Mila & Rex’s 11.29.22 Litter - 4 Weeks

This week, the puppies hear us coming and get excited about porridge, play time, and snuggles. Their personalities are showing themselves. Each is taking the litter boxes more seriously - thank you, puppies - so much;) Ever After keeps up with weekly nail trimmings as well as mini grooms (brushings, nails, eyes, paw pads, and private areas). Mila still does a great job of keeping her puppies tidy; we just help. On that note, Gretel deserves a shout-out for nursing and cleaning Mila’s three smallest puppies. She is a big help in sharing the load of Mila’s big family. Not so exciting for the two nursing mothers, the puppies are teething. Good thing the pups like porridge since the moms start the weaning process when those sharp teeth begin to materialize.

Puppies are hearing the Christmas music playing in their nursery now. With their wobbly first steps improving each day, they should be dancing along by Christmas time. Ever After gifted them names this week. The sweet story characters from Charlotte’s Web seemed appropriate for this tender bunch. Finally, from our home to yours, have a “Merry Christmas!”

Mila & Rex’s 11.29.22 Litter - 2 Weeks

Although still develping, the puppies eyes started opening this week! It’s so fun seeing their eyes peeking through those sleepy eyelids. With only nine milk faucets and nine puppies, they still managed to plump up quite well. The puppies mastered the technique of staying put on their faucets until the milk comes down at least twice. Mila is lovingly willing at each feeding. Sharp little baby nails were cut with a human clipper this week. Check out the nail cutting video on the RESOURCES page for a guide to cutting your dog’s nails. Lastly, Ever After is often asked how we pose our puppies. Let’s just say that it’s a process not to be rushed;)

Mila & Rex’s 11.29.22 Litter - 1 Week

Week one is filled with wonders (ha, catch that?). Although unable to hear, see, warm themselves, or defecate on their own, the puppies (with mom’s instinctual help) manage to smell and feel their way to the milk bar and mother’s fur for warmth. Ever After helps the little family with a warm room and whelping box as well as assistance for any stragglers needing available milk faucets. Instrumental Christmas music plays softly in the background for a relaxing environment as Momma Mila spends most of her time loving on her precious babies. For Ever After, the holiday season is made even brighter with these nine joining the celebrations. What could be better than a pile of puppies beneath the Christmas tree!

Mila & Rex’s Litter

Mila whelped nine healthy puppies on 11.29.22 - 5 girls and 4 boys. She truly is a wonder dog who enjoys everything about becoming and being a mother. Rex and she again produced a beautiful litter of partis and apricot/reds with white markings. The puppies should mature to around 20-27 pounds and 16”-17” to the withers(shoulders). They’ll be the perfect size for cuddling on your lap, jumping independently into the car, going on hikes, racing along the beach, swimming, you name it! Congratulations to all who get a therapy temperament Mila & Rex puppy!
